Tilapia fish farming business is a very profitable business, there has been a deficit of fresh farm produce as Zambia heavily depended on importing from South Africa. The price of foodstuffs in Zambia has tripled resulting in people not having proper balanced meals, as they cannot afford to purchase essentials. Problem identification This is the major reason for setting up Haven of Grace Farms so that we supplement the market with fresh fish and vegetables in most supermarkets, local stores, and general markets. Business Solution Haven of Grace Farm is endeavoring to supplement the shortage of fresh fish and vegetables on the Zambian market. The farm will also create employment for farm managers, farm technicians and other related jobs. Two fishponds will be constructed and filled with pond liners to prevent water sinking. Water pumps shall be utilized to help circulate the water and provide air circulation. We intend to raise fish from fingering (baby fish) stage to full-grown size. The water from the fishponds will then be used to water vegetables. Business Process The business is at idea stage and once operational it will involve keeping fingerlings (small fish) for six months. The harvest will be ready after six months when the fish is weighing about 400 grams or more. The fish will be ready for sale at this stage. Profitability The initial costs price of setting the dams, installing borehole pipes, and other infrastructures makes the business make very little in the first cycle (6 months). Marketing & Sales Our sales and marketing plan shall be based on utilization of social media advertising, word of mouth and a well-managed customer retention and management system. The covid-19 pandemic has pushed most business to use social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter etc.) to promote and sale their products and services. As Haven of Grace Farms, we intend to take advantage of Radio and television, Social media platforms, Print media (newspapers, trade magazines etc.), word of mouth referrals. First year milestones • Construction of ponds - • Liming of the ponds. Required before stocking the pond with fingerings. • Technical training: The Fish Farm Managers and feeders will need to undergo practical training in Fish Farming to manage the farm effectively and efficiently.
